How I like to keep fit and healthy
November 25th 2014
With summer quickly aproaching, I thought we would share with you some of our favourite workouts to help get you feeling beach ready. The key to being a fit and healthy individual is all about finding the balance between healthy eating and regular exercise. It is important to think about what we put into our body to ensure that we are consuming the best sources of energy, not only to fuel your exercise routine but to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and some cancers. If you have your food intake on the right track, exercise will help you to tone up or build muscle depending on what you do. Engaging in 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise most days of the week is recommended for optimal health. See below for some of the best ways to keep healthy this summer.
Here are my top 10 workout recommendations:
Swimming is a great workout option in the summer. Not only is it low weight baring- making it perfect for anyone with lower limb injuries, but is also a refreshing anf fun way to get your 30/day.
Cycling is a great sport to participate in with all of the wonderful bike paths around Brisbane. The council even have bikes to hire which make it easy to access. It is a low-impact activity that increases stamina, strength and aerobic fitness. Why not go for a ride today and enjoy a coffee with a friend when you reach your destination!
Kayaking is a fun way to add in some physical activity to your day. There are multiple kayak hire opportunities throughout Brisbane.
Walking is a fabulous activity to do with a friend to catch up and get fit together. Best of all, its free! Southbank and Kangaroo Point are beautiful places we like to walk.
Whilst cardio is an important part of burning energy and keeping a fit body, weights are a great way to help tone your body and get those muscles you have always wanted.
Running up and down stairs may not seem like the funnest of activities, however they are gauranteed to have results and dramatically help to tone your calfs, thighs and butt. We recommend the stairs at Kangaroo Point if you are up for a challenge.
Rock Climbing is becoming more and more popular throughout brisbane and is a great fun and socal way of toning your muscles. Faciltiies such as Urban Climb offer a range of memeberships that accomodate for rock climbers of all abilities.
Hot yoga is a an experience everyone should have. Yoga improves your flexibility and is a great way to de-stress after a busy week. Be prepared to sweat! Most importantly ensure to drink adequate water afterwards to prevent dehydration. There are many places around Brisbane which have introductory specials. Why not give it a go?
Running is my all time favourite activity because you can run anywhere! Running is a weight bearing exercise which means it helps to build strong bones. It also improves your cardiovascular fitness and you will burn lots of energy.
If you have a gym membership attending the classes they hold is such a fun way to improve your fitness in a group setting. It can help improve your motivation and you may achieve things you didn't think possible! Our favourites include body attack and RPM (cycling).
